Aaron, you say this is a known colony of C. atrovespa. I'm not disagreeing but from the photos I can't really distinguish it from C. actensis which is also in the area.
Hi Tony, yes fair enough no problem. This is the exact same colony under the exact same clump of grass from last year. But you're right, it's quite close to other C. actensis plants scattered around the same area...
I went to visit some C. atrovespa on Black Mountain today. I noticed that the coloured bit at the base of the leaf I was looking at appeared more black than red.
