Actually Roger, you didn't really get it wrong - the genus Amblyopone was in the subfamily Ponerinae for a very long time and was moved into the subfamily Amblyoponinae only in 2003 - so you would have been completely correct 18 years ago! Also, another reason to thank you for the sighting is that it made me go back and look at all the other Amblyopone sightings and allocate what I could to species level, so I've learned two things today. Congratulations Roger, a new species for CNM! I haven't seen this species around the region before, but there are a fair number of collections around Canberra, Black Mountain and the region. Thanks! Jon
