Appears to be tribe Plectoderini (in family Achilidae, subfamily Achilinae), but looks different to the species already on Canberra Nature Map.

Hi Steve, you may well be right about this ant being Podomyrma adelaidae, as the two spots on the gaster are supposed to be diagnostic, but the pale markings we can see on the gaster of this specimen are found occasionally in quite a lot of ants. The other things that make me doubt that it is Podomyrma adelaidae are that the species usually has a much darker gaster than body, and the head in this specimen seems to have fairly coarse sculpturing rather than the relatively fine parallel striations normally seen in P. adelaidae. There are probably around 10 species of Podomyrma around the ACT (at least six species in Mulligan's Flat/Goorooyaroo alone), so I have left the sighting at genus level. Cheers, Jon
