ACT Indian Myna Control Petition

Can you please sign the petition that has been created, on the ACT Legislative Assembly website, seeking action by the ACT Government and Environment, Planning and Sustainability Directorate to control mynas in the ACT.  It has been two years since the ACT Government declared Indian (Common) Mynas as a pest species, but since then the Directorate has just relied on backyard trappers to take action in controlling this pest, despite lobbying from the Canberra Indian Myna Action Group for wider action.

We need a whole landscape effort, and that means also by ACT Government agencies doing their bit, especially on public land. Most of the thousands of Indian Myna records on Canberra Nature Map are from within Canberra Nature Park or urban open space.

just click on the link below which will take you straight to the ACT Leg Assembly petition.

Should control of other birds be considered? https://theconversation.com/should-we-cull-noisy-miners-after-decades-of-research-these-aggressive-honeyeaters-are-still-outsmarting-us-169524

Julie - with friends of grassland CNM has been lobbying very hard re having adequate and appropriate weed control - I think we have had some success - also the responsiveness to new weed risks identified on CNM is currently very high. Dwise re other birds yes we should keep them in focus and CNM did run a campaign re the bulbul when we had our first sighting. Signing this petition does not preclude any other action or focus of feral control.

Signed it this morning. There are other pest species like Starlings and non-native Pigeons that should be taken out as well. Some introduced weed species like, common Blackberry and Saint John's Wort need to be eradicated as they are getting quite rampant in the paddocks and natural areas in the ACT.
