Significant sighting

4 Nov 2018

This goanna is vulnerable in NSW and really appreciate any ACT sightings

User's notes

Maybe a bit ambitious asking for an ID? Was quite a large lizard...

Hi Walter Ego
This is not too far from where Matthew Higgins has observed goannas 'Rex' and 'Rosie' breeding. Because the goanna is only partly inside, this burrow might be an emergency bolt hole rather than one of their main residences, but it could still be worth our while taking a better look at the exact location of your sighting. My email is don.fletcher@emailme.com.au if there is any further information about the location or the animal that you would care to share. We can identify Rex and Rosie and other goannas from photos of their faces. cheers

Thanks, Don. Glad I submitted the pic! Happy to return to the scene to try and get a pic showing the bolt hole in more context if that would be useful?

Yes it would Walter! Many thanks. We need to move promptly to have best chance of seeing your animal in a nearby burrow. (I will bring a small endoscope for looking into burrows.) Matthew and I can be at the top of Fisher St at 3.30 pm today. Can you be there in the area any time this afternoon?
