Phylloporus sp. (Phylloporus sp.)

The fruit bodies are mushrooms that grow on the ground. The caps are dry and smooth, up to 20 centimetres in diameter, rounded to flat (or even with margins turned up) and some shade of brown (from pale greyish brown to deep red brown). The gills are bright yellow, may fork and may have some cross-connections.

Often, especially when a mushroom is in prime condition, damage to the gills will cause a blue-green discolouration. Before I took this photo (see http://www.cpbr.gov.au/fungi/images-captions/phylloporus-sp-0062.html), I ran a fingernail across the gills and you see the resulting blue-green area.

Spore print brown.
