Philobota lysizona (A concealer moth)
The forewings of Philobota lysizona and Eusemocosma pruinosa have complex dark markings on a white background. There are differences between the species , but they can be difficult to see, especially if the moth is a little worn.
A simple distinction is the thorax colour. The E. pruinosa thorax is fully white, although closed wing specimens show a few black scales crossing the body just behind the thorax.
The P. lysizona thorax is white with a prominent black band across it.
Both species have yellow heads. In P. lysizona it is more prominent, but it fades with wear, and over time in set specimens. E. pruinosa has a more subtle yellow head which fades even more. E. pruinosa is the smaller species with narrower forewings and more pointed hindwings.
