User's notes

A rhizomatous perennial grass, with stiff erect leaves and a large wooly seed-head, flowering in autumn, growing up to about a metre tall.

Since it is a rhizomatous grass it is hard to say how many plants are in a patch. I've seen patches with over 100 grass tufts locally. The number of plants will vary with the conditions. There is no limit to how many would be in a patch if the conditions are suitable.
