Heard an unusual call this afternoon. The bird was in thicket with other species. Our resident birder couldn't get a clear view. He thought possibly a chestnut rumped heathwren when he played back some calls but was not preprared to vouch for that.
Doesn’t look very Heathwren like to me unfortunately. I’d be happy calling this a brown thornbill, and any unusual call could probably be put down to mimicry.
