User's notes

We heard lots of chatter, and then wandered into a banquet - gang-gangs feasting on redeye cicadas (we estimate around 20 gang-gangs, minimum). Astonishing! Birds swooping low, picking off the cicadas from tree trunks and branches; perching in shrubs, craning their necks and just grabbing the next morsel, methodically dismembering them before moving on. Too drunk on cicadas to worry about the awestruck humans . . . even flying to the ground to pick off the next cicada. I'm hoping there were a few breeding birds amongst them, to make the most of the protein for them and their brood. There was enough to share with sulphur-crested cockatoos. Just an amazing experience . . .
