User's notes

Baldy and partner were feeding high in a backyard tree, possibly an ironbark. They seemed to be eating insects rather than seeds. Yesterday (19 Aug), I found the half-tree in which his 2023-24 hollow was located had broken off right at the base and was lying on the ground. It had still been standing 24 hours earlier when I was watching a pair of crimson rosellas investigating another hollow on it.

Thanks Cath

Yes - hollows may take a long time to form but many are worryingly short-lived. Of our 80 known Canberra nest hollows this is now the tenth loss in our 7.5 years of watching and most trees we have only been watching for less than 4 years.

Good to see Baldy and partner back for another year - I wonder where they will nest this year.
