User's notes

Note, the GPS is off a bit. Actual sighting was on the southern edge of the disused fire trail parallel to the old fence line, immediately north of the GPS pin. Animal length approximately 1m. This individual was amazingly calm, such that our party of two Venturer Scouts and two Venturer Leaders only spotted it and stopped 30 to 40cm from the animal. It was calm, barely reacting to our presence. So we backed up a meter or so and got such photos as phone and D-SLR cameras allowed, before we walked on and the animal stayed in the same spot. This is the 4th Rosenbergs we have spotted in recent years whilst doing WaterWatch sampling and analysis for Southern ACT Catchment Group, as part of Venturer Scouts ACT.

Hi @VanceLawrence and @wombey, This same goanna was recorded in the same spot half an hour later (Lomandra and yellow stone visible in photos) by @JimL Varanus rosenbergi (Heath or Rosenberg's Monitor)#

JimL knew to take photos of the left and right faces, from which the different individuals can be identified. By comparing your 4th photo and his 2nd photo, we can see the goanna's right face is the same in both reports.

Hi @DonFletcher
We were there at the same time, that’s for sure.
This is definitely one and the same animal.
Not sure how the time difference came about. I used my phone, @VanceLawrence had a DSLR camera and phone. My timestamp should be accurate straight off the phone with GPS.

Confirmed @DonFletcher . This is the same animal (Jim was the other Venturer leader). I think I need to double check the time settings on my D-SLR, as I use the phone to get the GPS tag, but the D-SLR where I can to get the better shots.

Thanks for the advice on the photography of the face. I'll keep that in mind, and pass it on to the two venturers who were with us at our weekly meeting.
