Significant sighting

This is only the second naturalised occurrence of this potential high risk weed in Canberra - good to eradicate while we still can

User's notes

this was growing from the stump of a casurina at Mawson Ponds ACT, also a few stillremain adjacent to stump. Someone had cut it and painted site with purple something. Can anyone advise if native or introduced please?

This is Asparagus virgatus, recently confirmed by Herbarium. It has been treated by ACT Biosecurity. There is/was another plant about 50m away that might also have been treated. If the small plants (suckers from rhizomes) don't die they will also need to be treated.

Thanks for that Mike. Very helpful for us on the Friends of Mawson Ponds' crew.

This was the same plant as the first significant sighting. Quick response by @ACTBioSecurity means it might not spread. But it could be in someone's garden.

HI, ACTbiosecurity treated this area yesterday, the team located the back yard that this plant was thought to have spread from and the people who owned the property allowed us to treat it within their yard also. hopefully this will halt the spread of this invasive plant in that Area
Thanks

That was good searching. I knew of two, and hadn't looked over the fence.
