Tall tussock grass with contracted inflorescence, branching visible. Body of lemma mostly 6-6.1 mm, awn to 23 mm. Column of awn twisted. Lower third of culm with short, fine hairs. Image 3 has a comparison of Dichelachne micrantha (left), dense inflorescence, branching not visible, and Dichelachne hirtella (right), branching visible, awn twisted, glumes more obvious such that inflorescence looks more papery.
