Eucalyptus recurva (Mongarlowe mallee) is the rarest Eucalypt species, and one of the rarest all Australian native species. It is also called the 'ice-age gum'. Some plants have very large lignotubers and are of great age: "The existing plants could be over 10,000 years old." It is critically endangered: NSW BCA: Critically Endangered; Commonwealth EPBC: Critically Endangered

Photos taken just after the 2019/2020 fires. Location approximate. Site now protected and no longer accessible. (Apologies for quality of photos).

Thank you. Being in this presence of this ancient tree was a reverential experience for me (and I'm not spiritual, or an ecologist, botanist or environmental scientist - just an ordinary citizen scientist). Something to remember.
