Hughes Garran Woodland is fighting a loosing battle against noxious grass weeds, eg ALG, ST, CNG and other weeds like Paspalum and Panic Veldt Grass. Volunteers spray some of these weeds, but we also have problems with Phalaris (large areas), Pigeon Grass and the Bromus grasses.
The ACT Gov used to spray the noxious grass weeds more frequently and with a pre-emergent against seeds of these weeds. Now we get 1 (or 2) sprays with glyphosate per year.
We have received grants for weed control, but it is difficult to get the weeds sprayed at the correct time of the year.
