Steve, do you know whether your record triggers a response from Biosecurity who carried out a recent survey of Inkweed in the area? FoMM volunteers are not working on the east slope.
@waltraud The Parks Biosecurity unit @ACTBioSecurity should be following this species - so that would send them an automatic email alert to their email address
HI @waltraud ACT biosecurity have been surveying a vast area in the Mt Majura area and we are planning a large-scale control event in the spring of 2024 Thanks ACT biosecurity
Excellent ACTBioSecurity We noticed that the Biosecurity team mapped Serrated Tussock during the Inkweed survey. Are there any plans to tackle those? FoMM began to tackle ST south of the Fair project site, see for instance Nassella trichotoma (Serrated Tussock) .... Nassella trichotoma (Serrated Tussock) .... Nassella trichotoma (Serrated Tussock); we map treated ST with Field Maps by streaming and usually and additionally record on CNM with comments. We still struggle with very small ST and asked ParkCare for support to identify ST in the field - the answer was that Parks doesn't have the resources to employ someone who can do grass id and I was sent a link to online material.
Hi @waltraud I'm Not sure what the plans with ST are in that area, The ACT Biosecurity team's focus is new and emerging weeds while established weeds remains with the area rangers and the Biosecurity and rural services weeds team. I will flag this with the Weeds team and they might be able to assist you further. Thanks ACT Biosecurity
Thanks https://canberra.naturemapr.org/users/22230. Could you recommend someone who could help us with id of ST in the field? Contractors overlooked significant patches of ST (including those we mapped up to 4 times with Field Maps Non-treated Weeds 2023-24) and sprayed about 20 Speargrasses for each ST at our Fair project site (we were not informed about contract work). We may need to prepare ourselves to control ST at least in and around high conservation sites until the time Government provides resources to tackle this and other WoNS at a comparable level to offsets. I hope FoMM will get help from the ONC in the 2024-25 financial year.
