The Baldys' female chick has fledged! I saw her at the hollow at 9.35 this morning, but after I returned from a short walk at 10.20, only the male chick appeared even when the parents called. The parents were both sitting quietly nearby when I returned at about 4pm. Mum went to the chick a couple of times, but Baldy sat quietly feeding. Heading home a while later, we saw the parents fly to a dense tree and then heard mum briefly feeding a chick. The chick can just be seen behind her as she flies off and Baldy looks on proudly (image 2). The fourth photo is the last one of the female at the hollow, taken at 9.35. The last photo shows the male chick sitting up taller after big sister had left. The chick presumably fledged between 9.35 and 10.20 and was found about 215 metres from the hollow.
Well done Kath. Excellent observations. I checked out the site at around 4:30 this afternoon but no activity detected. I had not seen your report until late this evening. Chris
