Out this far west It will either be C.carnea or C.fuscata. Given how early it is in the season, and looking at what appears to be incurved labellum side lobes it should be the latter. Having said that a double C.fuscata would be highly unusual, it typically only has a single flower.
Yeah i agree, it does seem to be quite a stout plant. But C.fuscata can be pretty small, there are some closer to the coast that are smaller than a 5cent piece.
This might be C. fuscata as the buds are striped which apparently isn’t a feature of C. carnea. Might be an unusual double flowered C. fuscata. I’m still a bit uncertain as to exactly what this plant is so I will l leave this as a sp.
