I doubt its Chorizandra.
Chorizandra inflors are not terminal like this, but lateral (or appearing lateral).
I'm thinking Restionaceae.
Trevor, any comment about habitat (eg wet ground ? ) do you have any other photos ?

No other photos. It was in an area I could see was at times quite wet but very dry at the moment, lots of other rush and sedge kindcof plants around. Plants about 20cm high under gum trees, very sandy soils,

I've done some ferreting and Baloskion is likely, in fact most likely. There is only one Baloskion for this region and that's B. australe, so I have nominated that as an ID.
However, it looks closer to Baloskion fimbriatum (which is not really in this area).
if B Australe is not correct, then hopefully someone familiar with Restionaceae will correct this in the future.
