This was found as a caterpillar (sighting 4434465). Have had this in a jar, where it built a cocoon ca. 3.5 months ago. It emerged sometime this week. Its wings are misshaped.
I'm not sure how I can link two sightings here, but one picture is at https://api.naturemapr.org/api/sightings/4434465/images/1?r=29756 The caterpillar is mostly black with long white strands of hair. Hope this is of help
A. ocellata usually has filled in black spots on the forewing upper surfaces, rather than the outlined spots of this sighting. Also the A. ocellata larva has rows of pink verrucae, which are not evident in this larva.
Interesting. Check out the images of A. ocellata on CNM and also p. 207 'Moths in the ACT' (Cocking G, Bond S, Edwards T. 2022). Females show open 'spots' on forewing (as per chriselidie's images), Males show 'spots' filled in.
