User's notes

It looked like the top of the plant had been bitten or broken off - the remnant was only about 20 cm tall, but flowering strongly. It is on a rocky slope that would have been quite moist until the recent dry spell but is now pretty dry, as shown by the moss patches in the second image.

I guess a centaury was the only thing that the flower looked similar to when I trawled through images of all the possible plants, but the flower was definitely white and I haven't been able to find a description that says there are centaurys with white petals. Could they be bleached from water stress?

White flowering forms are not uncommon, though i can't think of why off the top of my head.
