2 pairs with 2 nests plus 2 immature birds
Thanks to Kim Farley for the info via the COG email and on eBird with the great details of exactly where to stop to see them. Apologies for the poor quality photos, they were quite a distance away and the heat haze did not help.
Great to see that they're back at it again breeding, I wonder if they were the same birds that were at Jerra Wetlands earlier in the season? Hopefully they'll have some better luck. This is also the first breeding record away from Jerra Wetlands in the ACT, and one of the fewer ACT records of the species in general away from that site, which is definitely their local stronghold during the summer months.
Yes it sure was great to see them again, even if at a distance. We did wonder if the 2 immature birds may have been ones that survived from Jerra Wetlands but unfortunately there is no way to find out and they didn't fly over and have a chat with us. It is wonderful to see them breeding here still, just hope the big rains don't come at the wrong time again for them.
