This is a very useful photograph showing predation on the legless lizard. I once saw a kestrel take a legless lizard out of Themeda grassland in the 2CY transmitter station paddock (near former CSIRO Wildlife at Gungahlin). I have also seen a photograph of a Kestral photographed in Canberra that could not fly because a D. inornata (Olive Legless Lizard) it had caught wrapped its long tail around the birds wing! From memory it had been taken to RSPCA. I am not yet convinced this is D. impar. I would like to see a clearer photograph of picture 2 (the photo that shows the body and not just the tail). When i enlarge that picture, after downloading it, it is too blurry to confirm whether there are markings like D. impar markings. Perhaps John was able to get a clearer view on his computer. Would you mind emailing that picture to me or reloading it at a higher resolution. Thanks Will.
Thanks Will - this was identified by qualified naturalists on the Canberra Wildlife FB page and not by me. I originally thought it was a brown snake but was abruptly told no! I will send you the high res now. If you republish the image at all please credit me.
