This is the first record of this beetle in the ACT and wider region of NSW, while there are less than half a dozen records from mainland Australia on the Atlas of Living Australia

wow! If I am not mistaken, this is a good find! i believe it is Castiarina insularis. In the few years I have been focussing on jewel beetles, I have had a few 'wish lists' waved under my nose; this has appeared on all of them. Presuming, as it states, that these pics were taken yesterday in the Mt Clear area, it is also a very early emergence of this species (the higher the altitude and cooler the clime the later in season they emerge). All three shots show this fine beetle on grass? Was something in flower nearby? Too many questions to pose here; may I ask the 'fortunate finder' (RAllen) to email on CNM or ring me direct on 0404330965. Bottom line, well done!
