Hi Jacky, I have been asked to enquire whether it was definitely a Noisy Friarbird, as it would be only the 3rd instance of a friarbird host in the ACT. Red Wattlebirds are the typical hosts in this region. It would be appreciated if you could confirm, or perhaps make a follow up observation?
Ryu yes definitely a Noisy Friarbird, I got a good look at its head when it flew into the tree and when it flew off again. The fledgling then followed it to a high branch of another tree, and the Friarbird was calling its characteristic strangled sounding call. I am really sorry that I did not get a clear photo of it, but photo 1 shows its very thin dark beak at left and photo 5 shows its light grey hindquarters at right. I am listening out for them when I go out in hopes of a better photo. Cheers Jacky
