Thanks to Marcus Leach for the initial sighting of these roosting bees. The abundance value is approximate as the bees started to depart when the camera got close to them.
Black Leioproctus species are difficult to identify from photographs, but I suspect I may know what they are. Is the middle of the face flat and polished? Were there Persoonia flowers in the area?
Hi Michael. I'm not aware of Persoonia flowers in the area of the sighting. I've checked ANBG's 'Find A Plant' and there are no Persoonia flowers recorded anywhere near the sighting. However, that doesn't mean that there aren't any, just that they are not recorded. I've also gone back through the images and there are none that show the face of one of these bees in any better detail than shown in the uploaded images. Tim
