Geranium antrorsum has differently shaped stamen, this is geranium potentilloides. I will note for future reference that there is a conflict with Geranium antrorsum on ALA as it appears to have been renamed Geranium retrorsum. I shall do some research and see what I can do :)
Many thanks for id tapirlord. According to PlantNET both species have pubescent stems with retrorse hairs; in G retrosum flowers however are usually in paris whereas in G potentiloides they are usually solitary as it seems to be the case for the specimen abread reported here.
PlantNet has all three G. antrorsum (single flowers), G. retrorsum (paired flowers) and G. potentilloides with 2 subspecies. Only retrorsum seems to be common on CNM. PlantNet does not seem to make note of stamen shape. But some of the CNM photos are helpful for that. Hope your research with ALA clarifies things, Tapirlord!
G.retrorsum also lacks hairs on the sepals which differentiates it from the other two, and while flower structure is usually a pretty good way to differentiate G.antrorsum and G.potentilloides it is worth noting that the former is mostly confined to the high country while the latter is more widespread. Currently, there are no confirmed records of G.antrorsum in the ACT outside of namadgi and surrounds while G.potentilloides has been confirmed from within the city, (although not previously from mt Majura). For future reference when submitting wildflower sightings (But specifically Geranium, drosera and whalenbergia sp) It is often easier to ID if we have a shot of the back of the flower (Although your records are usually very good abread) :). ALA seems to point to all three species names being correct on CNM. As with a little digging, I was able to uncover records of G.antrorsum in the ACT from 2017 and in NSW from 2020 so it seems as though G.antrorsum is simply under-reported due to its habitual preference. Thanks for the following up, I hope this clears up a few things, Cheers, :).
Dito the Census which lists: Geranium antrorsum, G. potentilloides var. abditum, G. potentilloides var. potentilloides and G. retrorsum. A major difference between the 2 potentilloides var's seems the location of bracteoles. Great descriptions / photos G. p. var. potentilloides here: https://canberra.naturemapr.org/sightings/4185798 and G. p. var. abditum here: Melobasis sp. (genus) Barb I wonder whether you could collect a specimen and put in fridge or press for my friend botanist who 'll be back this weekend...
tapirlord we had a cross over of comments; I didn't see yours when i wrote mine. I should make a bigger effort in plant id in the future - I neglected a number of groups such as the Geranium because I found them too difficult...
B Read collected sample from this clump on 31 Dec, called sample 1, at base of dead tree, in amongst dead mistletoe branches, with Glycine also very close
