Cow pats along the Smokers Trail once the path met the bush near the Square Rock carpark. Cow pats found again alongside a creek running into a grassy herbfield. A natural spring had been churned up by cows. A cow was could be heard mooing from somewhere near the herbfield.
The herbfield had been completely churned up by the cows, and was completely dry.
Does this area have a grazing plan? I was quite surprised that such a sensitive area would have cows. I thought we only had pigs in the area. I would be interested to know what history this area has with cattle if anyone can shed some light.
It is a drought. In previous droughts (e.g. 1983, 2002) large numbers of livestock from nearby leases were found in Namadgi National Park. This location is not far from the Booroomba lease, and there is a natural route up to SF. Anyway they are likely to be owned cattle. There is a rich tradition of delay in the removal of such strays. But I suggest you forward your photos to the PCS Rural Unit in Stromlo Depot, and also to Namadgi National Park. cheers
