How do you tell the difference between Setaria pumila & S. parviflora ?
   17 Apr 2019
According to Plantnet
Plants perennial; bristles evenly coloured= Setaria parviflora
Plants annual; bristles usually pale at the base = Setaria pumila

So looks like being Setaria parviflora?

Does size matter? These were bigger plants and bigger flowerheads than other grasses identified as Setaria species.

Mike, did they look like perennials or annuals?

If we could confirm that they were perennial as a double check I would agree with Setaria parviflora.

Going by the descriptions and photos in 'Grasses of the NSW Tablelands' I would say Setaria pumila. Many plants had browned off so unless chemically induced this means they are annual. S. parviflora (slender pigeon grass) is described as having narrower flowerheads. I didn't take a specimen.
