Not to mention a Xerochrysum bracteatum flower? The caterpillar would need strong jaws to chomp through that. Any chance of going back and taking the caterpillar into protective custody for rearing and later release back there?

sorry we don't really know enough about rearing insects and pretty sure it would not be there still :)

Rearing is pretty easy. You just need a jam-jar, a piece of cloth and an elastic band.
