The closest match I've been able to find is Syntonarcha iriastis, see ALA : https://bie.ala.org.au/species/urn:lsid:biodiversity.org.au:afd.taxon:17bbf179-a656-443a-b994-ab922c168b93. However only three of the specimens shown there on the ALA are plain grey like this one and they lack the speckling visisble near the costa on the forewing in this specimen.

Don - how confident are you of this identification, ALA doesn't have any sightings for southern australia of the white rice stem borer and could it be a concern if it reached rice fields in the Riverina? Or would it only survive in the tropics?

I think the Scirpophaga suggestion is doubtful. Many of the Schoenobiinae, like Scirpophaga are pale and featureless, somewhat like this specimen, but I do not know any with the dark marginal markings.
Riley's and Cocks' specimens of Syntonarcha iriastis on ALA are featureless except for these marginal markings, so I think Ian is right.

I had a look on Bold Systems 4 for S. iriastis which shows 78 dried specimens from throughout coastal Australia. Most seem to be plain and featureless looking and most show dark marginal markings to some extent. There are also a few which seem to show the whitiish speckling at the costa., although not many. I would think this specimen is very fresh and recently emerged.
