User's notes

About 20cm in length, so not sure if it was a young dragon? Note, I have added a second photo that shows the colour of the tongue.

This does look very like a Nobbi Dragon. Perhaps a faint hint of yellow appearing in the dorso-lateral pale stripe. If you check back at the site in a few weeks you may see the yellow stripes and pink breeding colours on the males that will help id them as D. nobbi. Try and get another photo if that is the case. As John has pointed out previously mouth colour (pinkish) easily separates them from Jacky Lizards (yellow) in the ACT. What might help with a decision on this one is that I have seen quite a few Nobbi dragons on the lower slopes of Mt Tennent very near this location - mainly sitting on granite boulders.

AS far as I know Nobbys have not been seen this far south.

I must admit, I was rather tentative with confirming this as muricatus. The dragon does look odd and I would be happy to agree to a change to nobbi if any other evidence or opinion can persuade the argument. If this animal represents a population here then a peek inside the mouth would certainly help solve the issue. I can almost visualize a faint red flush at the base of the tail. Anything goes at this junction!

Nobbi dragons have been recorded as far south in our region as Cooma Back ridge (just to the north of Cooma) in Callitris pine country.
