Geoff I know it is up a tree but I think this is a Rosenberg's, given the number of stripes on the tail

Michael, I too have had some difficulty with this animal. I initially said rosenbergi until I saw the additional image of the end of the tail. More like varius. This is an excellent example of the difficulty with id for some of these individuals and although I settled on varius I am happy to stand corrected if anyone else out there is prepared to comment.

Thanks John - given the paucity of local tree goanna records I'd be delighted to be wrong

Michael, as John knows, we checked this one and were told it is of a single animal. We also know that that Rosenberg's can and do climb trees.

Yes definitely a Lace Monitor and a great record. Notice the very broad white and dark sections of the tail towards the tail tip - Rosenbergs are double banded (narrow bands) all the way down. WillO
