User's notes

The ant didn't seem at all interested in the caterpillars, so may have just been wandering through.

Interesting. It has been suggested that the 2 glands on the penultimate segments of Lymantriid larvae secrete a fluid that may be attractive to ants who then protect the larvae from parasitic flies and wasps.

Would make sense. It didn't seem to regard it as food at all, though it may have had a bad experience trying to nab that species before from the prickles.
