This is a weed we don't want to have spreading along our waterways. See Michael Mulvaney's comment below. Park rangers have been asked to destroy the plant and remove all seed pods.

Near the Molonglo River below Coombs; seed pods very large, approx 20 cmm long.

Gleditisia badly infests the Hawkesbury river, near Camden,The thorns are like daggers I spoke to a weeds officer from council who spent time in hospital having a thorn removed from his bicep. Unfortunately we are still using supposed "thornless" varieties of this plant in street tree plantings.

I was amazed at the size and sharpness of the thorns.
This is a very weedy section of the river, quite scrubby with rough terrain.
It looks like people have been spraying blackberries and planting some native trees.

On 5/5/2017 I was advised that park rangers had cut down this tree, poisoned the stump and bagged and removed the seed pods.
