Hi Janet Margaret Ning has brought your doubts about this sighting being Panicum effusum to my attention. I think you are on the right track and I've changed the ID to Panicum capillare. It would be good to get a specimen to show to David Albrecht at ANBG for verification.
I am on the case Michael. I checked the Canberra Plant Census and E. capillare is shown there. Plantnet ihas been looking strange and has been no help.
Hello Michael, I went to the site this morning and I am afraid I was already too late. The Govt has been busy with whipper-snipping and tidying up the area. The grasses were there dried and topped. I see that this grass is an annual. I checked the area to see if there were any more growing but there were only the four I originally saw. Will have to see if seedlings pop up anywhere. There is a camper hire business in that street - perhaps the seeds were originally brought in from out of town.
Collected herbarium specimen this morning (RWP11316); five plants present (two fertile), growing in crack at base of brick wall and cement parking surface near -35.24083, 149.060305.
