This is a vulnerable woodland bird across NSW, with sightings in the ACT only being a rare occurrence.

RyuCallaway, yep there is some similarities with a red rumped, but the colouration would suggest otherwise. It's almost certainly a Neophema and there looks to be too much blue on the wing, and not enough blue on the face to be a turquoise.

Thanks for the note. Having had another closer look as well as comparing it with images online I think you may be right (initially I had only consulted the field guide). Unfortunately the neophemas are not a group of birds I am familiar with so will leave this for Chris Davey to confirm. This would be an exceptional record for the ACT.

Good record, and it seems that Turquoise Parrots are turning up a little more regularly in and around the ACT. I have recorded the species at the Kama Nature Reserve but that was a few years ago now.
