User's notes

Could those be mites it's carrying?

The white spots may be eggs of a parasitic insect such as a Bristle fly. The mites that cling to insects are usually red.

This brachypterus conocephaline was identified by Dave Rentz, author of the katydid guide. I have not seen this species before, but according to him, not uncommon locally and feeds on Lomandra sp at night.. There is 1 described and 6 undescribed species in the genus. An interesting record.
