In a water sample squeezed from vegetation at the edge of pond. If the identification is incorrect then it is likely to be a species of Pleurotaenium. General width of main body length was 16µm and length was 300µm.
Stephen Skinner of the NSW Herbarium said "a desmid, Pleurotaenium trabecula (Ehrenberg) Naegeli. There are a number of different intraspecific forms described.Please remember that these determinations are done without microscopic examination on my part; I don't know any measurements, and there is often little reproductive information in the pictures. I also don't have precise locations or any water data"
