Roy- Being in grassland habitat in summer, I think this is a rufous songlark- You would have likely heard these guys singling in flight a beautiful long melodic song often described as witchety-witchy...
Assuming that this is the same location as your woodswallow report, it is a beautiful spot to visit in summer- I have seen both Diamond Firetail and Southern Whiteface in that corner as well as Tree Martin, Rufous Songlarks, and more in the surrounds

Chris- Most sources seem to refer to this Megalurus mathewsi. I'm not sure which taxonomy you are following with this, but can you check for me, and at least add it as a synonym?
