thanks Ryu, I'm not too crash hot on IDs for small birds, I thought this might be a Weebill. Any tips for me on how to distinguish them in a photo like this without seeing the rump? Thanks, Roy :-)

It is hard to explain, more of a combination of features. I guess the most obvious features of the face would be a blunter stubbier bill and a noticeable pale brow over the eye for Weebills. Buff-rumped Thornbills also have slightly more orangy scalloping above the beak, which is absent from Weebills.
In the field, you will find that Weebills tend to stay in the mid to upper canopy whereas BR Thornbills will most often be in the lower canopy to the ground
