This is an amazing orchid and a beautiful photograph. How do you manage to remove all the surrounding growth from interfering with the plant? Do you carry a black screen or something to put round the plant and how do you remove grass etc from interfering with the picture. I don't like to disturb things too much and the orchids I find always seem to grow in awkward places like under tree branches and close to other plants!
Thanks :) I always try to disturb the surrounding area as little as possible. In this case, I've used a black umbrella behind the plant to shade the area and provide a dark background. I tend to choose orchids to photograph which are in fairly open places so that it is easier to get a nice open shot without disturbing the area. Grass can be exceptionally annoying, I agree! If there are a few blades interfering I sometimes bend them so they sit away from the photo, but a lot of the time they are just part of the photo. Background screens can also help with annoying grasses behind the orchid.
