I'm fairly sure this is in the family Sarcosomataceae and in Rifai's (1968) study on the Australasian Pezizales this would have keyed out to the genus Plectania, but that was then and now microscopic characters are needed to separate a number of genera including Plectania, unless someone is familiar with the individual species. Found growing on partially buried wood.
KenT's comment about Plectania is a good one. That's the genus I'd think of if I came across this locally - and I reckon a microscope would usually confirm that.
