Octospora 'humosa group'
The fruitbody is disk-like to somewhat cup-like, orange, without a stem and up to 15 millimetres in diameter (though often markedly less). The margin is raised and is toothed or with a frill-like edge.
The fruitbodies appear on the ground amongst or near the bryophytes they parasitize.
Apart from Octospora humosa there are number of related species (some still un-named) that make up the 'humosa group'.
Look-alikes
Species of Lamprospora, Neottiella and other Octopsora species are macroscopically similar and a microscopic examination is necessary to identify a specimen.
