The Hibbertia pedunculata/serpyllifolia complex has been split (Toelken, 2013) and this species is the most likely of 3 new species (+ horricomus and singularis) to be the one which is a common understorey species in Allocasuarina nana montane heath in Wadbilliga and Deua NPs.  H. pedunculata and serpyllifolia are no longer considered to occur on the NSW south coast or tablelands.
