Cordyceps sp. (genus) (Caterpillar fungus)

The Cordyceps fungus attacks a host, and the mycelium  invades the host and replacs the host tissue. 

There are approximately 400 species of Cordyceps fungi worldwide.

They are know to parasitise a wide diversity of hosts and much study is still required here in Australia.
