COLEOPTERA: Acanthocnemidae

Native to Australia and very widely distributed on the mainland and in Tasmania. It has been introduced into southern Europe, Africa and parts of south and south-east Asia. Adults are equipped with heat-receptor organs on the thorax, which they employ to find sites of recent fires, presumably to breed; they sometimes appear at campfires.
