Psednura musgravei (Musgraves Psednura)

This is one of two species of Psednura that have been recorded in the region. The other species - P. pedestris - is very similar in appearance. Both species can vary in colour, from all green, to a mix of green, brown and grey. The males are much smaller than the females. The most reliable way to distinguish them is from the habitat and host plant. P. musgravei is found in dry heathland and woodland on the coast and eastern Tablelands, where it is associated with a wide range of grasses, sedges and rushes. It is sometimes confused with the nymphs of Acrida conica. The latter are distinguished by the presence of wing buds.
