Echinosphaeria aff. canescens

The fruitbody is roughly hemispherical, about half a millimetre in diameter and densely covered by brown bristles. The fruitbodies occur on wood, often in large colonies.

Echinosphaeria canescens is widespread in Europe and has been reported from several places in North & Central America and once from India. That species may not occur in Australia, but a fungus with some affinity to Echinosphaeria canescens does occur here, hence the addition of the qualifier aff. to the species name.

Look-alikes

Some other species of Echinosphaeria or Lasiosphaeria are macroscopically similar.
